Who Is RECO? The Story Behind Our Sugarcane Straws

RECO started with a simple belief: small changes, like the straw a business chooses to use, can add up to real environmental impact. That belief became our mission: "change the world one straw at a time."

From problem to solution

Single-use plastic is one of the biggest environmental problems we face. Plastic straws take up to 200 years to decompose and leave microplastics behind along the way. RECO set out to find a raw material that wouldn't add new demand on the planet.

Why sugarcane

The answer was already sitting in Thailand's sugar industry. Every time sugarcane is milled to produce sugar, a large amount of bagasse fiber is left over as a byproduct. Instead of letting it go to waste, RECO extracts that fiber and combines it with plant-based bioplastic to create a straw that performs like plastic and is built to last through a drink.

From the field to your table

Farmers grow and harvest sugarcane → sugar production begins at the mill → leftover bagasse fiber is extracted → the fiber is made into straws → each straw is individually wrapped for hygiene → delivered to restaurants and hotels nationwide.

Sugarcane straws are RECO's first step. We continue to look for more eco-friendly products to replace single-use plastic in business operations.
